Neither am I. Drag cars should ALWAYS (IMHO) be RWD or AWD.

FWD is better at going straight and staying that way. Except for torque steer, but I'm sure a creation of this level has equal length half shafts.

I would agree, but I wouldn't turn down a ride in that thing

That honestly looks bad ass though.

You've got all your weight atop the wheels, and you can't wheelie. What doesn't make sense about that?

Maybe the car can wheelie in reverse. It's practically a Porsche then. As long as it isn't to far in front of the axle, you should be fine. You want the engine far back as possible, because if for example, you torque steer, it would be a lot more unstable and harder to pull the car back in. But then again, you aren't exactly trying to turn here. But other than that, More weight towards the driving wheels will help A LOT with traction. So I see no problem here.

I searched up front wheelie, and found this:

Its not good at going straight fastest though, and in drag racing, thats what really counts.

In a FWD drag car, YOU are the wheelie bar. Also, you get to look at the beefy tires while you drive, so I suppose that's a plus.

"They said it be fun," as you go through the speed trap at 161mph, then realize you have to brake and steer with 10psi of tire pressure.

This looks almost exactly like an autocross car I designed (but never built of course) back in the eighties. My theory was it would have a cvt transmission with left and right rudder sticks to control a steerable rear wheel, so it could go around 180 degree cones very quickly. I realized though that there would definitely be problems with rear adhesion under lift-throttle and heavy braking.

The whole weight transfer at launch takes weight off the front wheels thing. Also, RWD cars on 10.5 tires run in the 6s, why is FWD needed?

Oh yeah, tuners showing they can drag race too. Yeah, about that.....

For the most part, with the way you have it here it seems like it shifts the weight even more onto the wheels at launch. And it's just to be that little bit better.

I don't get what you said, I must have missed something in there.

Well, when you launch, the rear of the car will drop a bit, shifting a little bit more weight onto those front tires.

And the reason for doing this even though you have six second RWD cars is for having your cars run that little bit better, it's the same as aerodynamics with F-1 cars.

Not the way it works at all.

When the car takes the initial hit a lot of weight transfers back to the rear wheels. You immediately lose traction when you need it the most. It's a simple physics formula. F = uN.

You can certainly drag a FWD car and hit fast times, but I have yet to hear about anybody running better than a high 6.

I see, um, but will politely disagree, because you said it yourself, weight transfers rearward which creates a moment around the rear tires and reduces weight on the front, which due to simple science says there will be less traction.

Sincerely, the guy who has worked at an NHRA-level dragstrip for 8 years.

Yeah, the guys in "tuner" cars who break traction due to a botched shift are the funniest though.
